First Generation of Wine Makers
The story of every winery begins in the vineyard, and ours begins with the legacy of Avraham, a young man who emigrated from Odessa to Austria. Against all odds, Avraham successfully overcame the many hardships of his journey, and in Austria he was destined to encounter both the Teperberg family, who gave him a warm home as well as their name, and the fascinating world of winemaking. The secrets of wine production over the millennia were revealed to him, and he drank them all in. Today, nearly 150 years later, Avraham’s legacy is still a vibrant part of the modern Teperberg winery, as his presence watches over the secrets he discovered, with a love that will also be revealed to you with every sip you take.
These wines, from select varieties and unique vineyards, are created using the most meticulous production process, designed to unleash the immense potential of the winery’s finest grapes. The process is very different from those the winery uses to produce its other series, and therefore serves as a kind of winery within the winery. The Legacy series is produced from a range of niche varieties, giving each wine a rich, distinctive character. All wines in this series mature in French oak barrels for 18 months and then continue maturing in the bottle for an additional 10 months before being released to the market. They have great aging potential and will continue to improve for many years to come.
Second Generation of Wine Makers
After becoming a specialist winegrower and winemaker in Austria, Avraham Teperberg immigrated to Israel, where he set down roots in Jerusalem’s Old City and established his first winery within its walls. With his son Ze’ev by his side, Avraham’s winery endured and prospered despite turbulent times in the region. However, it would take another 30 years for this small family-owned winery to become a widely-renowned company.
Exquisite varietal blends, these wines are distinguished by their unique growing environment and terroir, and fully reflect specific soil and climate conditions. During the meticulous wine production process, great emphasis is placed on highlighting the particular characteristics of each respective vineyard where the grapes were originally grown. The red wines in this series are matured for 18 months in French oak barrels, and will continue to mature for years in the bottle.
Third Generation of Wine Makers
In 1905 Mordechai Teperberg becomes the manager of the winery – a business that inspires the entire Jewish settlement. It was told that while he was walking down the street, the youth of Jerusalem were trying to come across him, in a hope to join the family business. In 1925 Mordechai moves the winery from the only place he knew to Romema where it strucks roots and reaches new peaks of quality and success.
An exclusive series of red and white wine blends from quality vineyards spread around several growing regions in Israel in Mitzpe Ramon, Mount Ephraim, Ayalon Valley and more. This wine series offers new original blends crafted by the winery's winemakers, alongside a classic Bordaux blend. The wines are embodied by the complexity and richness of the varieties, producing a full and soft palate, attained from the aging processes. The red wines in this series have been aged for 8 months in French Oak barrels.
Fourth Generation of Wine Makers
The Teperberg family has two traditions. Firstly: before signing any new business agreement, they approach a complete stranger on the street and offer him a one-percent share in the partnership – purely for good luck! And secondly: only one person can manage the family business. After 40 years, Menachem Teperberg, the fourth generation of the family, handed the reins over to his son Moti.
A series of classic red and white varietal wines, produced from vineyards in Shfelat Yehuda and the Ayalon Valley. The wines in this series are blended from select varieties and matured in oak barrels for about 6 months in order to create high-quality wines with aging potential. These wines are very appealing and pleasant to drink, even when young. They are characterized by their balance of rich fruity aromas and the delicate fragrance of the oak barrels.
Fifth Generation of Wine Makers
Some 150 years have passed since the boy from Odessa came to Jerusalem via Austria, and now Moti Teperberg, Avraham’s great-great-grandson, is leading “Teperberg 1870” into the 21st century. Today, the winery is located in the Judean Hills, at the heart of Israel’s foremost wine region, and has become one of the most state-of-the-art wineries in the country. Its cultivation technologies are constantly being updated, as it breaks into new global markets and develops fine new wines, while the next (sixth) Teperberg generation is already taking its first steps in the family business. The epic journey, which began with one brave young man making his vision a reality, has now lasted for five generations, and is still only just beginning...
